Everything Steak Fries

I’m not a huge fan of French fries. There, I said it. I feel like I’m the only person on the planet that does not gobble down these starchy sticks. I like potatoes and I like salty fried food but French fries have never been high on my list of things to eat.

However, my entire family loves them. We recently grilled some hot dogs (yummy!) and they needed a side dish. I had just bought a bag of potatoes and thought I’ll make something that everyone likes (except me). So, I decided to make steak fries with a slight detour from tradition.

We also bought a container of Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend from Trader Joe’s. I do not get any compensation from them; I just really like this product. When I open it, I instantly smell the garlic and onion. Yum! It also has sesame seeds in it which usually make me think of hamburger buns or stir-fry or even tahini paste but not French fries. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I decided to give it a shot and top some chunky spuds with this magical topping.

It was delightful! All of my picky eaters were willing to give it a try and they were happy with the results: like, three helpings happy. I loved them too. The combination of the Parmesan cheese and the seasoning was just what I needed to enjoy these French fries. Baking them in the oven also added the nice crisp to the outside while the insides were moist and tender. Winner! Give them a try!


5 baking potatoes

2 tablespoons olive

2 tablespoons Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend from Trader Joe’s

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper


1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Rinse potatoes. Cut into 1/2 inch wedges.

3. Coat potatoes with olive oil. Sprinkle with seasoning, cheese, salt, and pepper.

4. Lay a piece of non-stick foil onto an 11 x 7 baking sheet. If you don’t have foil, make sure you spray your pan with non-stick spray to avoid the potatoes sticking to the pan.

5. Place potatoes on the pan. Don’t crowd the potatoes or layer them.

6. Bake for 30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn potatoes.

7. Increase temperature to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 20 minutes more.
